Welcome Message

Hello! My name is Mrs. Hesseltine, and I’m excited to welcome you to 3rd & 5th Grade Science this year. I’ve been teaching at Pettus Elementary for 9 years.  For me, the best part of teaching science is making it engaging and relatable through hands-on investigations and everyday connections.

About Me

I have been in education for 25 years.  When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, and being with my pets – they’re the best! Between school, my family, and pets, I stay pretty busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

  • Minimum of three major grades per each 9 weeks grading period (one every three weeks)
  • If a student fails a major assignment, the student will be allowed one attempt to redo the assignment, with the highest grade possible being a 70.

Daily Work and Weekly Tests:      40% of grade

  • Minimum of fifteen daily assignments per each 9 weeks grading period
  • 2 grades per week, per subject, per number of weeks in each grading period
  • Daily grades are not eligible for resubmission or a grade change.
  • Grades will be put into Ascender by noon on the following Monday.

Missing Assignments and Tests:

  • Missing assignments and missing tests will be marked with an “M” in Ascender, which means a zero will be assigned.
